DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Foreign Minister Sir Louis Straker met with Carlos Morales Troncoso, Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic. The Foreign Ministers discussed deepening interaction and cooperation. In that regard, Minister Troncoso offered between five and ten scholarships to Vincentian students to pursue studies in the Dominican Republic. The two Foreign Ministers pledged to cooperate in a number of multilateral issues, including climate change, trade negotiations, and solidarity among small island states.

Ambassador Camillo Gonsalves and Enriquillo A. del Rosario, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to the United Nations, also signed documents establishing formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. Remarkably, despite their proximity and interactions over the years, the countries had not established diplomatic relations.
