Prime Minister Gonsalves met with Anibal Antonio Cavaco Silva, President of the Portuguese Republic. The two leaders discussed the Prime Minister's ancestral roots in Madeira, and the President invited PM Gonsalves to visit Madeira and mainland Portugal. Prime Minister Gonsalves and President Silva also agreed to further areas of cooperation and partnership between the two countries. They also agreed to explore ways in which the two countries could support each other in multilateral bodies such as the United Nations.
