Republic of GHANA

Prime Minister Gonsalves met with John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor, President of the Republic of Ghana. President Kufuor told PM Gonsalves that the Caribbean was not adequately represented in West Africa, and that it was "high time" that the two civilisations reconnect. Prime Minister Gonsalves agreed with the President, and the two discussed ways to deepen the connection between Ghana and SVG, including student exchanges, scholarships in Ghanaian universities and other cultural and economic links.

The two leaders also discussed President Kufuor's recent visit to Trinidad and Tobago, which laid the groundwork for greater cooperation between Ghana and CARICOM. Prime Minister Gonsalves discussed his vision for an "A-B-C" air travel connection (Africa-Brazil-Caribbean), which he first mooted at a 2005 Africa-Diaspora Summit in Jamaica. President Kufuor endorsed the idea of improved travel links with the Caribbean.

President Kufuor invited Prime Minister Gonsalves to make an official visit to Ghana, and the PM accepted the invitation.
