Prime Minister Gonsalves met with Jose Machado Ventura and Felipe Pérez Roque, the First Vice President and Foreign Minister, respectively, of Cuba. Prime Minister Gonsalves updated the Cubans on the progress of earthworks at the Argyle International Airport and on the good work of the "Chatoyer-Ché Contingent" of Cuban and Vincentian personnel. The Prime Minister also discussed other areas of SVG-Cuban partnership, including the Modern Medical Diagnostic Centre at Georgetown. The delegations discussed plans, arrangements and agenda items for the upcoming CARICOM-Cuba Summit in Cuba. Prime Minister Gonsalves also briefed the Cuban delegation on the developments in relation to closer economic and political cooperation between Trinidad and Tobago and the OECS. The Cuban delegation updated PM Gonsalves on their recovery from the recent hurricanes, and conveyed their sincere thanks to the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines for the assistance they provided to aid in their recovery. Prime Minister Gonsalves indicated that he and the people of SVG were willing to do all that was possible to assist, and pledged continued solidarity with the Cuban people in their current difficulties. |
