Prime Minister Gonsalves met with Heinz Fischer, Federal President of the Republic of Austria. Prime Minister Gonsalves and President Fischer discussed areas of cooperation, including Austria's generous provision of scholarships in the tourism field and assistance for the Argyle International Airport. President Fischer thanked PM Gonsalves for his pledged support of Austria's candidacy for the UN Security Council. The two leaders reiterated their mutual commitment to further deepen and strengthen relations.

Prime Minister Gonsalves also raised the issue of the damage caused by Hurricanes Gustav, Hanna and Ike in islands of Cuba, Haiti and Jamaica, and requested that Austria examine ways in which it could assist these islands.
